Approximately 25% of the environmental impact of the global food system is attributed to avoidable food losses and waste.

Valorizing industrial side streams and reducing food waste present major opportunities to mitigate these impacts. With the action plan against food waste, the Swiss Federal Council aims to halve avoidable food losses by 2030. LCA plays a critical role in evaluating the environmental performance of different strategies for side stream valorization.
